About the Chaplaincy

The Chaplaincy is a part of UiO's student welfare services. We help students address existential and spiritual questions through conversations and activities.

The Chaplaincy is located on the top floor of the Frederikke building at Blindern. You can meet a Buddhist chaplain, Humanist chaplain, Catholic chaplain, and two university chaplains (from the Church of Norway) at the center.

Our services are free and open to all students at UiO. We aim to embrace the diversity of beliefs among students, including those without a specific affiliation.

The Chaplaincy will develop, organize, and collaborate on activities and arenas for dialogue and reflection. This can happen through student initiatives or in response to needs that become apparent through individual conversations or interactions with students or student associations. Examples of such activities may include grief support groups and dialogue events where students can explore philosophical, ethical, spiritual, and existential questions and themes.

The Chaplaincy will:

  • provide students with conversations about life, meaning, grief, and spiritual and existential questions.
  • organize activities that promote dialogue, understanding, and community across diverse beliefs and faiths.
  • enable religious and philosophical practices on campus.
  • assist the faculties in cases of death, emergencies, and questions related to belief and faith.
  • be a part of UiO's student welfare services.
  • uphold the vision of “Det livssynsåpne samfunn” (NOU 2013:1).
  • be in accordance with Trossamfunnsloven (2020) and the government's policy on faith and belief.
  • promote equal services for religious and non-religious students by having representatives from various communities.
